The story
About
Firefighter and EMT first. Neurosurgeon by way of Colorado, Mayo, Boston, and Miami. Builder because the paperwork got in the way.
Before medicine, I was a firefighter and EMT in New Mexico. I watched a squad bring a man back, and that settled it. Biology at New Mexico State, medical school at the University of Colorado, then seven years of neurosurgery residency at Mayo Clinic.
I stayed at Mayo for a neuroendovascular fellowship, then trained in pediatric cerebrovascular surgery at Boston Children's Hospital / Harvard Medical School, and cerebrovascular surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital / University of Miami. That combination lets me offer patients both open surgery and endovascular treatment for the same disease, and pick whichever serves them better.
I practice at Mayfield Brain & Spine in Cincinnati, treating adults and children. Outside the OR, I run SynAIpse, the healthcare automation company I co-founded, and publish on cerebrovascular disease and technique.
